School Council

The primary purpose of the School Council is to act as a key contributor to the effective operation and delivery of high-standard education services for ‘The Knox School’.  The School Council is a formal sub-committee of the Board of The Knox School.  The brief of Council is to address key matters of Strategy.  These matters can be raised by Council, members of the Management Team, or referred to Council by the Board of Directors.

The School Council is a voluntary body comprising representatives from across The Knox School community.  These representatives include an Independent Chairperson, School Principal, Board delegate, Business Manager, Secretary, 2 x school staff representatives, 3 x Parents invited by the Board, 2 x Alumni representatives, 1 x Knox Community representative and 1x member with an interest in Education.  The Council meets on a monthly basis between February and November. The Chair of the School Council is Mr Geoff Mann.

The School Council provides advice to the Board and facilitates consideration of a range of key strategic initiatives that support the mission statement of The Knox School (“Knox enhances and develops the aspiring mind with a joy for local and global discovery and life long learning”).

A key platform of the School Council is the Strategic Plan of Council.  This document sets the foundation of Council and identifies the key areas of interest and attention on an annual basis.  The document represents focussed discussion on a range of issues of importance to our school that will ultimately create a better school environment for our students.

During recent years the School Council has addressed many strategic issues.  These reports have been prepared and presented by members of Council as well as the Principal and members of the Management Team.  Some of the recent strategic issues that have been considered by Council include school bus program, extensive sports program, Healthy Food campaign, growth of the Alumni, staff recognition, school security, student safety, continuing expansion of the Music program and improved governance and membership of the School Council.

Parents or interested persons wishing to make representations to the School Council may contact the Principal or send an email to council@knox.vic.edu.au
