Homestay

It is a DIAC requirement that all students under 18 years of age live in supervised accommodation approved by The Knox School. We will find suitable homestay accommodation for international students with families who have been hosting students from The Knox School for many years. All our homestay families have undertaken a police check. Every effort will be made to accommodate your homestay requests.

Homestay accommodation costs approximately A$210.00 per week and consists of a furnished bedroom in a private home with three meals a day provided. The bathroom will normally be shared. International students will be expected to keep their room and shared facilities clean and tidy.

Students over 18 years of age are permitted to share a house or flat with other students. Estimated cost would A$260.00+ per week. Flats/units or houses normally require one month's rent in advance and one month deposit.

Note: Most flats/units or houses are unfurnished.

Homestay Testimonials

My name is Isaac Deswanto. I come from Jakarta, Indonesia and I am studying in Year 11. The Knox School found me a homestay where I can really enjoy myself in Melbourne. My homestay parents originated from Laos and they take good care of me. Even though my homestay parents were from Laos, I still have the chance of improving my English with their son who was Australian born and is a local student also in Knox. He introduced me to many of his friends and thanks to him I have many local Australian friends as I can improve my English. I get along very well with my homestay parents and we are more like a family. We get to know each other more and get to share about our cultures. My studies in Australia have been much more pleasurable thanks to my homestay parents.

My name is Jayson Chang. I came from the capital city of China – Beijing. I am studying in Year 11 in The Knox School. I have been here for a year. When I first came to Australia, I am afraid that the environment is not suited to me, everything is new here and strange. I am a little bit scared. At that time, I can’t speak English very well. One year later, I had changed and grew up already. I stay in a very good homestay who is the teacher of The Knox School. She is very kind and help me a lot in many ways. In the school, I made friends with local students who helped me improve my English and to know about the culture and custom in Australia. I am happy to study with them.
