The Middle School fosters an active and diverse group of young people from Year 5 to Year 9. The Middle School provides an educational envionment where students actively learn and are able to move successfully through this important stage of their life with increasing independence.

Research by groups such as the Centre for Adolescent Health has shown that there can be a decline in student achievement in late primary and early secondary schooling. A Middle School environment provides continuity in these vital years by providing students with security, a connection with their school environment and a sense of value from their peers, staff and the school.

The Middle School program involves:

  • The allocation of a homeroom for core curriculum
  • Two central teachers who are able to get to know students on an individual level
  • A full Specialist Program
  • A special program to prepare Year 9 students for the challenges of VCE

To facilitate the transition of the large number of students that will join the school at Year 7, The Knox School conducts an Orientation Day for all incoming Year 7 students to make them feel welcome and to allow them to experience the exciting times ahead for them at The Knox School.

The Middle School allows students to enter the Senior College with confidence in the uniqueness of self, in their talents and with their relationships. At this important stage in their schooling, students have developed an independence and belief in the dream of what they can achieve.
