Pastoral Care (Student Services)
Everyone at The Knox School has the right to feel safe and secure.
Pastoral Care is concerned with the emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development of the individual student. Pastoral Care is important in all stages of transition, helping student’s develop a positive self-image, resilience and a feeling of belonging.
Beginning at the Junior School, students are taught how to solve social difficulties in a positive manner through the use of literature discussions, roles play activities and problem solving group work.
In the Middle School the Pastoral Care Program includes, but is not limited to bullying programs, organisational skills, time management and the development of self esteem. Each Year Group has a forty minute period with their Tutor to approach in greater detail issues affecting their lives such as leadership, ethics and values, and moral dilemmas.
In the Senior College the Pastoral Care Program emphasises citizenship and character education. This is achieved through activities and community service projects which concern self esteem, responsibility, critical thinking, decision making and economic security. Our Pastoral Care Program also deals with issues surrounding the VCE including University entry, motivations for study, time management and leadership.
Throughout the whole school, regular open and honest communication between parents and staff promote a joint approach to dealing with behavioural concerns.
Pastoral Care is multidisciplinary and involves family and friends and other staff such as the Tutor, Counsellor or School Nurse if necessary.
