Alumna of 2014, Maddison Ryder graduated in Industrial Design last year from RMIT. As part of her final year, Maddy developed a decomposable material using scrap lettuce leaves; working them into a clay-like substance which can be laser cut to create disposable plates. She called her creation “Lettuce Eat”. After use, the plates can be composted. Maddy was encouraged by her lecturers to enter Melbourne Design Week and also to apply for the Waste Challenge competition. Maddy was accepted into both.
The creations will be on display during Design Week, 14-24 March, in an exhibition called Welcome to Wasteland. Maddy has been shortlisted for the Waste Challenge competition which carries a large cash prize.
Maddy was also interviewed this week on ABC radio. You can read more about the projects HERE.
