Camps

 

Camps commence in Year 2 where students participate in an overnight stay at Scienceworks. This experience supports the academic program as well as providing an exciting and safe first ‘camping’ experience. In Year 3 students take part in an a camp is held at Lady Northcote YMCA with a focus on developing collaborative skills such as problem solving, team-building and experiencing different challenges. Our Year 4 students consolidate their Inquiry-based Learning Unit on ‘Gold’ with a three-day trip to Sovereign Hill.

Students from each year level in the Lower Middle School participate in the Camping Program. Year 5 go to Kangaroobie, near Warrnambool; Year 6 go to Camp Coonawarra in Gippsland and Year 7 go to The Grampians. All of these camps provide a wonderful opportunity for students to work together and develop new skills in unique environments.

Instead of a camping trip Year 8 students take part in extreme sports and creative workshops over several days which teach them about initiative and leadership, as well as the benefits of group cooperation. Year 9 students spend a week in Phillip Island where they participate in a wide range of activities designed to provide them with an appreciation of marine flora and fauna, as well as an understanding of the importance of conservation, ecosystems and environmental sustainability.

The Year 10 camp to Healesville aims to allow students to develop their academic, social and emotional skills in a setting suited to growth and personal development. At the end of Year 11, students take part in a three day Year 12 Conference designed to help prepare them for the important year ahead. Students partake in team building activities and mind games, as well as hear from motivational speakers.

There are no additional costs for compulsory camps.
