The curricular and co-curricular music offerings at The Knox School are interlinked. This means that, in the myriad of Music Ensembles, activities and events available, participating students may use this involvement to contribute to their music coursework, and of course they may also participate just for the love of music. At The Knox School, we encourage students to perform a range of music styles across a number of ensembles, but we also strongly encourage a culture of creativity through composition, arranging and student conducting of music ensembles.
An exciting part of the Music program at The Knox School is the unique opportunity to learn a musical instrument from Year 2 to Year 7 at no extra cost.
The Knox School offers a diverse Choral Program, including the Pengana Voices for middle and senior school girls, the Murana Voices for Junior School students and the Middle and Senior School Choirs.
Our Instrumental Ensemble and Band Program are similarly extensive, offering opportunities for students in the Training Concert Band, the Senior Concert Band, The Chamber Orchestra and the highly acclaimed Knox School Big Band. We also have a healthy Strings and Wind Program, represented by the wonderful Kuranya Strings and the Flute Choir. We also offer a popular Guitar Ensemble, a jazz ensemble, an energetic Percussion Group and an improvisation class.
Students involved in the co-curricular Music Program often perform at school assemblies and music concerts throughout the year. They regularly represent the school at official functions within the Knox community and compete in local, national and international music competitions. A growing touring program enables students to expand their view of the world through music and each year an intensive music camp is held to hone the skills of our developing instrumentalists. The world of music is yours at The Knox School – the only limit is your imagination!
