Transitioning to Middle School
Spend a Day
Almost all students entering the school at Year 7 identify “making new friends” as their biggest concern. As a result of this we invite students coming to The Knox School to come and spend a day with our Year 6 students during the year preceding their entry into Year 7.
PAT tests are done for all our incoming Year 7 students. In this way we are able to have a spread of academic ability in each class and teachers are aware of the individual differences between students.
Peer Support Program
Although the Middle School itself provides a structured and thoughtful transition into secondary education, the Peer Support Program fosters links between our Year 7 students and Year 10 leaders. The senior students are trained to develop sessions that focus on team building, pastoral support and guidance. Meetings are scheduled on a regular basis and the Year 10 students attend our Year 7 camp to cement the relationships formed at the beginning of the program. Having student links throughout the School community assists in building a strong and supportive student network.
