Year 7 students
"Located in a bright and colourful space, the Lower Middle School comprising Year 5 to Year 7 students provides a seamless transition from the Junior School, building on the wonderful values-based programs established during the younger years.
The school day is structured to provide five periods of 70 minutes duration allowing for the inclusion of in-depth learning and consolidation within each lesson.
In Years 5 and 6 the core program will be run by a skilled generalist teacher, whilst at Year 7 the program will allocate a team of dedicated Year 7 specialists to provide units of study to harness the links between subjects and create a strong sense of connectedness. At all three levels, specialist teachers will deliver a varied creative, artistic and technology-rich program.
A unique aspect of the Lower Middle School is the Music program. Each student is offered free music lessons with a rotation of orchestral instruments and the opportunity to form part of training bands through to the School’s major musical ensembles. Private tuition is also available.
In these important formative years, students’ needs evolve and Year Level Coordinators are available for Pastoral Care and mentorship.
To improve self-confidence and personal growth, students in Lower Middle School are encouraged to further develop their public speaking and debating skills.
To facilitate the transition of the large number of students who will join our School at Year 7, The Knox School conducts an Orientation Day for all incoming Year 7 students to make them feel welcome and to allow them to experience the exciting times ahead.
In Year 7 there is an emphasis on preparing students for the transition into Secondary life and many leadership opportunities are available. "
