"The adolescent years offer a challenging time for many young people and our dynamic and unique Upper Middle School, comprising Years 8 and 9, has at its core, a major focus on adolescent health and wellbeing.

We aim to develop in our Upper Middle School students, greater social and personal development, confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

The Upper Middle School centre is situated in an environment apart from the Lower Middle School and its programs are designed to cater for the needs of these young people in their emerging adulthood.

The Upper Middle School is sensitively staffed with a mixture of male and female teachers who are specifically trained to deal with young people.

The curriculum is designed to offer an exciting and challenging mix of both academic and activities-based subjects which will help prepare the students for their transition into the important senior years.

One of the main focuses of the Upper Middle School is to build relationships with both the local and wider community. This will take many forms and will involve students volunteering their time to contribute and assist in Knox City community based projects such as Meals on Wheels, Aged Care facilities and working with those less fortunate as well as contributing to the School community.

Students experience programs such as the Tournament of Minds, the KEEP (Knox Educational Experience Program) city project, Outdoor Education, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the experiential program at Phillip Island.

The Upper Middle School allows students to enter the Senior College with confidence in the uniqueness of self, in their talents and with their relationships. At this important stage in their schooling, students have developed an independence and belief in the dream of what they can achieve. "

We are calling this exciting new building The Centre for Adolescent Health and Wellbeing and it will cater for the important needs of these young people in their emerging adulthood.

Apart from the important core curriculum the two year program will have an emphasis on pastoral care and community service. The new centre has a mixture of male and female staff who are specifically trained to deal with adolescents.

The purpose built centre has an environmentally sustainable design with the capacity for solar panels, heat pumps and rain water harvesting, as well as a vegetable garden, frog bog and worm farm.
