What does Music have to offer at The Knox School? An easier question to answer would be what DOESN’T music have to offer!
There is so much available that any musical possibility can be explored! From Prep right the way through to Year Twelve, students are able to learn an instrument, join an ensemble, perform, attend concerts and create original works! The Music Program lays the foundations for excellent Music literacy skills and then offers students multitudes of opportunities to explore their creative imaginations.
The use of technology in Music opens up avenues of creativity previously unimagined. Students can experience creating music for entire orchestras, exotic indigenous instruments and any number and style of ensemble! Students are also able to record themselves live and create their first CD – possibly the start of a successful career in Music. Speaking of careers, we use industry standard music software programs which have direct application to career pathways as a studio producer, arranger, DJ, composer or technician.
Music at The Knox School offers a rich menu of events for students and
parents to enjoy. Throughout the year there are evening
and lunchtime concerts. Some of these are themed, some are focused
on particular school levels and some focus on instrument groups. Our
VCE Music students feature in the annual concert program and take a leading
role as the premiere performers and musicians in the school. The repertoire
presented at these concerts has something for everyone to enjoy!
The Knox School always makes a big impact in the annual Knox Festival and are a regular presence in the local community. A featured event is the biennial School Musical Production which involvs a large team of students, staff and parents, working together to achieve a high-quality production. In 2008, The Knox School mounted “Thoroughly Modern Millie” to great acclaim, receiving two award nominations and four high commendations from the Victorian Music Theatre Guild.
The Music program at The Knox School is inclusive and enabling. We believe that every child deserves every opportunity to achieve their potential and we celebrate their journey along the way.
