STUDENT HEALTH AND WELL BEING

The Health Centre staff endeavour to promote optimal student health and to minimise health related barriers to learning.

The School Nurse is a liaison between education and healthcare, providing a link between the School, home and the community. Students (or parents) with health concerns are encouraged to contact the Health Centre Staff on a drop-in basis or by appointment between the hours of 8.30am to 4.00pm.

The Health Centre Staff are available for all students:

To service the health needs of the community on a daily basis

To provide initial care and follow up injuries as appropriate

To liaise with staff, students and parents when necessary

To provide a neutral space and help support and resolve conflicts/problems

To seek advice and assistance in managing health problems which may impact on School life

Who may need assistance with medication and monitoring

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for and manage their own medical/health conditions e.g. asthma and diabetes as well as their general fitness, nutrition and hygiene.

STUDENT INFORMATION

To ensure the best possible health provisions for each student, up to date information is vital. Please notify us of any changes to details as soon as possible. If your child has a specific medical condition or allergy, a School Medical Management Plan will be formulated by the Health Centre Staff in conjunction with the student and the Caregivers.

ASTHMA

If there is no Asthma Action Plan (from Asthma Victoria) provided by you for your child’s asthma management, standard asthma first aid will be applied if someone has asthma or difficulty breathing.

If your child requires any medication other than the prescribed inhaler for asthma, please provide the Level Secretary with the medication until required. The Parent/Guardian should provide medication in the original container, with a completed medical plan which can be obtained from the Health Centre.

LEAVING SCHOOL DUE TO ILLNESS

If your child becomes ill during the school day and needs to go home, Health Centre Staff will contact you. Students are not to make their own arrangements for safety reasons.
