The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is an important day in our school calendar where we stand with other schools across Australia to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’

Whilst today marks the 11th year of this National Day, at The Knox School we’re proud to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’ each and every day. With our Core Values guiding our practice and expectation within our community, Respect, Responsibility, and Care and Empathy determine that there is no place for bullying in our community.

Across the whole school, our bullying prevention initiatives this week put a spotlight on our stance, which fosters looking out for each other and standing up for what is right. Students are engaged in creating and participating in presentations, making banners and chatterboxes, expressing anti-bullying pledges in bunting and creating posters. We encourage students to take hold of the issue and talk about what works.

Senior Students in their assembly this week said “No Way” to bullying and violence, shown in this short video, and at the forefront of our whole-school objectives, we have been exploring how to use our school values to help us resolve conflict. Of particular interest to the TKS community is how to become a helpful bystander, prepared to call out unacceptable behaviours.

Bullying occurs when there is an intention to intimidate or harm someone perceived as vulnerable in a repeated or ongoing fashion. At the Knox School, we are very proud of our students’ overarching acceptance of each other, where Respect, Responsibility, and Care and Empathy foster a compassionate attitude, where students are able to learn, and staff are able to work, in an environment which is not only free from harassment but enables all of us to strive towards our personal best.

Our anti-bullying policy is available in the student Record Book and via the school website’s Essential Links, or can be found here

Unwell Children

Please could we ask that you do not send your child to school if they are unwell. This is to help reduce the transmission of seasonal colds and viruses between staff and students and the impact of taking time away from school and work to get tested and stay home until well.

In line with Victorian Government guidelines, please take you child for COVID testing if they have any symptoms associated with COVID, however mild. These include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, aches and pains, headache.

Please keep them at home until they receive a negative result and are completely well to avoid infecting others.

Several children have been diagnosed with RSV or Respiratory Syncytial Virus. See the factsheet from The Royal Children’s Hospital as it describes this infection very well.

If you have any enquiries please contact the school nurse, Colleen Norvill

Pedestrian Safety

A reminder to please use the footpaths and the crossings when using the top carpark. There is a lot of traffic in the morning and afternoon, and it is not safe for children to be crossing or walking in front of or behind parked or moving cars, even when with an adult. It is also important we all model pedestrian road safety to our children.
