to the IPSHA Victorian Branch
The Victorian Branch of IPSHA (The Independent Primary School Heads of
Australia ) formerly known as JSHAA, consists over one hundred members
from Independent schools across Victoria, including single sex, co-educational,
denominational, non-denominational, metropolitan and rural schools. Our
members may be heads of Junior Schools, or Middle schools which have a
significant proportion of primary age students.
Many of our members' Schools are part of a K-12 structure, while some are stand
alone Primary Schools. Being ‘independent’ of any other system means we can feel
isolated in our busy and often demanding role as a Head of a School, so membership
of IPSHA allows us to share the joys and challenges of our responsibilities as
leaders, as well as the benefits that arise from the professionalism and collegiality
generously extended by members.
Our first goal is to maintain the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia
as a significant influence in primary education, by fostering the cause
of primary education and maintaining links with other associations and
official bodies involved in primary education. We also aim to promote
the unique nature of primary education, embracing and nurturing the diversity
that exists within our member schools and sharing information about our
activities. Fostering quality educational opportunities for the children
in our care is a goal that unites IPSHA members. Providing collegial
support for our colleagues and the staff at our schools, is also a priority.
By coming to meetings and attending IPSHA events, members can take advantage
of opportunities to network, develop leadership and recognise members’
contributions to the wider educational community. Members’ willingness
to offer collegial support and friendship distinguishes our association.
The culture of the Victorian Branch of IPSHA is one of professionalism,
learning, sharing, mutual support and friendship. We are proud of our schools
and endeavour to seek new ways of providing our students with the best
possible educational experiences available.
