A Walk Through History at Assembly

At this week’s Junior School assembly, our 2025 House Captains shared presentations that brought the history behind each House name to life. It was a moment of reflection, celebration, and School spirit as students learned more about the individuals who shaped the legacy of our Houses.

Flinders Captains Shivani and Ethan reminded us of explorer Matthew Flinders, whose adventurous spirit mapped the Australian continent. They encouraged students to be just as bold and curious during House Activities. “We hope you can be inspired to get up and explore the world,” they shared, accompanied by photos of last term’s events.

Chisholm CaptainsEmily and Navid spoke with pride about Caroline Chisholm, the compassionate humanitarian who helped countless families in Australia. Recalling her nickname, “The Emigrant’s Friend”, they urged fellow students to lead with kindness. “We hope we inspire you to help others,” they said, showcasing images.

Lawrence Captains Ethan and Josh highlighted the achievements of Marjorie Lawrence, a world-class soprano who used her voice to uplift troops during WWII. Their message was one of perseverance and passion: “We hope we inspire you to try your hardest and give your all,” they said, echoing Lawrence’s lifelong dedication to her art and community.

Paterson Captains Isla and Ryan celebrated poet Banjo Paterson, whose love of nature and storytelling gave their House its signature colour, green. With a nod to his outback-inspired writings and a newly learned House chant, they encouraged everyone to embrace Paterson’s creative legacy. “When you see green, green means go!

These speeches didn’t just teach us history, they helped us see ourselves in it. Through each House’s story, we’re reminded of the values that guide us: exploration, empathy, passion, and imagination.
