From CPR to Confidence: Year 10s Complete First Aid Training
Year 10 students in the Outdoor Education class successfully completed their First Aid course, equipping them with essential skills that extend far beyond the classroom. This milestone in their education has fostered confidence, responsibility and a readiness to respond in emergency situations.
The course covered a wide range of first aid skills including CPR, managing fractures and responding to allergic reactions. Students learned how to assess situations quickly, communicate effectively with emergency services and provide immediate care until professional help arrives.
The skills that students gained are practical tools, transferable in everyday life. Whether it’s assisting a peer during a sports injury, helping a family member at home, or responding to an incident in the community, the knowledge empowers students to act with care and confidence.
Beyond the technical aspects, the First Aid course instilled a sense of maturity and responsibility. Students felt more confident in their ability to help others and more aware of the importance of safety in various environments.
“Taking part in the First Aid course was an unforgettable experience. It pushed us out of our comfort zones and really gave us the chance to apply real-life skills in a hands-on way. We worked in teams to assess situations, manage injuries, and practice emergency responses in realistic outdoor scenarios. The teamwork brought us closer together as a class and helped reinforce everything we learned from CPR to treating fractures making it not just educational, but genuinely unforgettable. Thank you to our trainer, Jack, for teaching us all that we now know.”

“The First Aid course taught to us by our instructor Jack was informative and an extremely useful asset for us to know in case of an event during our OED camp and in future circumstances in our own lives. I am grateful for the opportunity presented to me to learn about First Aid and would recommend it for future Outdoor Education classes at TKS. 10/10 experience.”
