Celebrating Student Success at the Victorian School Music Festival Awards
The Knox School recently celebrated another outstanding milestone at the Victorian School Music Festival, with our choirs and orchestras proudly representing our community.
Murana Voices, featuring vocalists from Years 4 to 6, sang beautifully and were awarded Bronze. Performing in a new venue was a big step for many of our younger students, and their courage and determination made the experience all the more rewarding.
Our Senior Choir, with vocalists from Years 7 to 12, dazzled both the judges and the audience, securing a well-deserved Gold Award. The excitement among the students after receiving their results was truly infectious.
In the orchestral section, Volante Strings, our Senior Strings Orchestra, performed for the very first time in the top-tier category and proudly earned Silver – an incredible result considering the calibre of performers from other schools.
Our Corelli Strings, made up of intermediate students from Years 5 to 10, also made their festival debut, performing with confidence and spirit to achieve Bronze.
These results are a testament to the talent, commitment, and teamwork of our students and staff. We could not be prouder of their dedication and musical excellence.
Just as these performances highlight the achievements of our older ensembles, our youngest musicians have also been stepping into the spotlight, sharing their learning journeys with family and friends.
On Thursday 14 August (Year 3) and Friday 15 August (Year 2), the Strings team hosted a series of Learning Showcases for the Years 2 and 3 Classroom Strings program.
These showcases gave parents a unique opportunity to step into a typical Strings lesson, experiencing the journey of learning a string instrument first-hand. Lessons began with bow and left-hand exercises before each class performed three pieces from Encore on Strings: Book 1:
- Year 2 performed Jungle Walk, Through The Trees, and In The Sun
- Year 3 performed Classic Frogs, Stew Pot Hop, and Twisted
We were also delighted to hear solo performances from Jackson Baker (2A, violin), Jun Su (2B, violin), and Leanne Bai (3B, cello), all of whom take advantage of the private lessons TKS offers students.
The sessions concluded with games of Simon Says (string edition!) and Pass The Beat, filling the room with energy and fun.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated Year 2 and 3 Strings staff for running these events, as well as the classroom teachers for their invaluable support on the day.
At The Knox School, we celebrate not only achievements but also the joy of learning and performing. These experiences remind us of the power of music to inspire, connect, and build confidence in every student.
