Book an Adventure
What a wonderful Book Week we have just experienced! This year we celebrated 80 years of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week. The theme, Book an Adventure, truly came to life through a series of engaging activities designed to foster a love of reading and showcase Australian literature.
The week began with a captivating performance of The Garden of Broken Things by Freya Blackwood. Our Prep to Year 3 students were enthralled by the storytelling, singing, and puppetry, which encouraged the young readers to step into their imaginations and see stories come alive.

The following day, students in Years 3 to 6 welcomed acclaimed author Nat Amoore. Her animated storytelling and relatable characters sparked laughter and inspired our students to think more deeply about the narratives they read and write.
On Thursday, author Michael Wagner joined our Prep to Year 2 students. His interactive sessions, filled with fun and humour whilst learning, enhanced their appreciation of storytelling and encouraged them to create their own stories based on real-life experiences.
Friday brought the much-anticipated Dress-Up Day, a joyful highlight of Book Week. Excited students arrived in an array of creative costumes, bringing their favourite characters to life and filling the School with colour and energy.

Also on Friday, our Years 4 to 6 students enjoyed a performance of Small Acts by Kate Gordon and Kate Foster, a beautiful story illustrating how even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Throughout the week, Prep to Year 6 classes participated in a special activity, decorating their classroom doors to represent different books. Students then roamed the Junior School, guessing the titles on display, which was a fun way to test their literary knowledge and strengthen our community spirit.
Book Week is an opportunity to highlight Australian authors and stories that reflect our diverse cultural heritage. By engaging with local literature, our students learn to value different voices and perspectives, building empathy and understanding through the power of a story.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the teachers, parents, and volunteers who made this memorable week possible. Together, we have helped our students discover new adventures through books; and the journey has only just begun.
Happy reading!
