Exploring Habitats Together

The Year 1 Parent Showcase brought families together on campus to celebrate the students’ Term 4 Humanities learning on habitats. It was a joyful afternoon that encouraged curiosity, creativity and confident communication as students shared their understanding in a hands-on and engaging way.

Throughout the term, students explored how animals survive and thrive in different environments. They learned to identify the key features of a habitat and investigated how living things adapt to meet their needs. The showcase offered a chance for students to reflect on their learning and present it with pride.

Students guided their parents through a range of thoughtfully designed tasks including a habitat diorama, a sales pitch, an information report and a creative story. Each task highlighted a different aspect of their learning, from scientific understanding to imaginative storytelling. The sales pitch was a particular highlight as students used their persuasive skills to convince their parents why their chosen habitat was the perfect one to “buy”. Among the laughter and excitement, every habitat found an enthusiastic buyer.

To finish the afternoon, families joined in a lively game of Guess What?, using a mix of animals from a variety of habitats. Watching students hold an animal card to their forehead while firing off clever questions to work out which creature they were meant to be added plenty of humour to the room.

The Year 1 Parent Showcase was a wonderful way to bring learning to life. It offered students the chance to share their progress, connect with their families and celebrate the confidence they have built throughout the term.
