Year 7 Students Shine in the Save a Species Showcase

As part of our end-of-year learning program, our Year 7 students recently took part in the highly engaging Save a Species Showcase – an immersive three-day experience that encouraged creativity, teamwork and deeper scientific understanding.

Throughout the program, students worked collaboratively to explore a range of endangered species from around the world. They investigated the threats facing their chosen animals, researched conservation efforts, and examined the role humans play in protecting biodiversity. This inquiry-based process helped students strengthen key skills in Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Communication, which are essential components of our TKS learning framework.

In teams, students then transformed their findings into a trade-show style display, designing interactive and visually captivating exhibits aimed at raising awareness about their selected species. The level of enthusiasm, curiosity and craftsmanship demonstrated across the cohort was exceptional, with students fully immersing themselves in both the scientific research and the creative presentation aspects of the experience.

The Showcase concluded with a celebration of student work, where staff and peers voted on the most informative, engaging and well-designed display. This year, the top honour went to the group representing the Volcano Rabbit, whose display stood out for its strong research foundation, eye-catching design and compelling conservation message.

We congratulate all Year 7 students for their impressive efforts and the passion they brought to this project. Their commitment to understanding and advocating for endangered species reflects the values we proudly foster here at The Knox School – curiosity, responsibility and global awareness.

A wonderful achievement to finish the year!
