Crepe Day: A Delicious Way to Practise Language Skills
On Thursday 4 December, French students across the Junior and Senior Schools enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to bring their learning to life. Chris and Lara from Crepe Delices joined us on campus, serving freshly made crepes to students who ordered entirely in French.
Prep to Year 2 students used a cheerful song to help them remember the phrases they needed, while students in Years 3 to 6 learnt a spoken script to guide their ordering. What made the experience so valuable was the real-world challenge of using another language in an authentic context. For many students, it was the first time they had spoken French outside the classroom, and they rose to the occasion with confidence and enthusiasm.
It was inspiring to watch students embrace the experience, support one another and persist even when the language felt unfamiliar. Every student did a terrific job, and their efforts were rewarded with delicious crepes and plenty of proud smiles.
This activity was a great way to celebrate learning and to highlight the importance of courage, practice and connection in language education.
