Last Thursday 12 March, our Year 4 Students embarked on an unforgettable excursion to Polly Woodside, diving headfirst into life aboard a 19th-century tall ship!
During the visit, students discovered fascinating stories about the ship’s history and imagined what life was like for sailors navigating the high seas. They eagerly got hands-on with activities such as steering the ship, learning nautical commands like port and starboard, scrubbing the decks, hauling ropes and sails, and even ringing the ship’s bell.
Exploring the ship’s nooks and crannies, they visited the cabins of the shipmates, captain, navigator, and cook, gaining a real sense of daily life onboard. This exciting adventure perfectly complemented our Humanities unit on the First Fleet, helping students understand the challenges and experiences of early explorers and settlers on long sea voyages.
The Polly Woodside excursion was not just a history lesson, it was a full-on voyage into the past, leaving our young sailors inspired and full of stories to share!
