House spirit was on full display at last week’s Junior School House Cross Country, where students from Years 2 to 6 came together for a day that celebrated determination, courage and community. Held on campus on Friday 24 April 2026, the event unfolded under clear autumn skies, ideal conditions that set the stage for an unforgettable day of competition and connection.

From the first race to the last, the atmosphere was electric. Students gave their all, whether chasing personal bests or simply embracing the challenge. What stood out most wasn’t just the athletic effort, but the encouragement echoing across the course, classmates, friends and housemates cheering each other on with genuine enthusiasm. It was a powerful reminder that success in sport is as much about support and spirit as it is about speed.

This year’s event introduced a refreshed format tailored specifically for Junior School students. With slightly longer distances, the course provided a meaningful challenge while remaining accessible to all participants. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with students and families alike praising the balance of challenge and enjoyment.

Among the many impressive efforts, we celebrate our 2026 Age Level Champions for their outstanding performances. In Year 6, Aaron Q and Amy D claimed top honours, while Year 5 champions Ian L and Madi G led their cohort. Year 4 saw Chengyu G and Abigail Z finish strongly, with Matt L and Zaya T taking out the Year 3 titles. In Year 2, Vanan P and Abisha K emerged as champions. Each of these students demonstrated exceptional determination and skill, an inspiring achievement.

These runners, along with other selected students, will go on to represent the school at the upcoming District Cross Country event later in May. We wish them every success as they take on the next stage of competition.

Congratulations also go to Flinders House, who secured the overall House Cross Country Champions title in a closely contested and exciting finish.

Reflecting on the day, our Head of Junior School, Mr Simon Cowell, shared:

“We’re extremely proud of our students, not just for the effort they put in today, but also for the support they showed one another, the teamwork they displayed, and the enthusiasm they brought to the day.”

Events like this highlight just how strong and vibrant sport is within our Junior School. With a community that values participation, effort and spirit, the future of school sport is not just promising, it’s thriving.
