On Monday 27 April, our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 Students took part in an engaging and educational incursion as part of the Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) Program. This program is designed to help children understand how to live safely with dogs while also promoting responsible care for pets.

The session was highly interactive, combining storytelling, role play, and hands-on demonstrations to reinforce key safety messages. Students learned how to recognise when a dog may be feeling happy, scared or angry, and when it is best to give a dog space. They were also taught safe ways to approach and greet a dog, as well as what to do if they encounter an unfamiliar or aggressive dog.

In addition to safety, the program introduced broader concepts of responsible pet ownership. Students explored how to care for animals, meet their needs, and understand the responsibilities involved in having a pet.

This valuable learning experience supports the development of students’ awareness, confidence and safety around animals, helping to build respectful and responsible future pet owners.
