Our Junior School French Students recently took part in an exciting and interactive incursion presented by The French Circus School. The session combined language learning with circus skills, giving students a fun and memorable way to practise their French.

To begin the workshop, presenter Anthony introduced himself and encouraged students to answer simple conversational questions in French, including “Comment t’appelles-tu?” (What is your name?) and “Quel âge as-tu?” (How old are you?) Students confidently shared their names and ages while building their speaking skills in an engaging environment.

Students were then introduced to a colourful collection of écharpes (scarves) and practised identifying and naming colours in French. This was followed by a fast-paced interactive game where students worked with a partner and listened carefully as Anthony called out different body parts in French, such as la tête (head) and les genoux (knees). The challenge was to quickly grab the scarf before their partner. As the activity became more difficult, students had to think quickly and use their growing vocabulary to keep up.

The fun continued as students paired up to practise tossing balls in a rainbow arch and learning the basics of juggling. To finish the session, students explored a range of circus equipment, including flower sticks and spinning plates, with many eager to try both activities.

Although the incursion came to an end all too quickly, students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and embraced the opportunity to learn new French words while developing exciting circus skills. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork and enthusiastic participation, making it a memorable learning experience for all involved.
