On Wednesday evening, the TKS Music Department transformed the stage into a place where dragons soared, folk tunes danced, criminals turned smooth, and moonlit journeys took flight.
Our 2026 Spring Concert brought together students from across the Senior School Music program for an evening of outstanding performances. Featuring string ensembles, bands, choir, guitarists and cellists, the concert showcased the dedication students have shown throughout the year and the enjoyment they find in making music together.
The concert opened with Cellobration, who delivered an energetic performance of Smooth Criminal, putting a fresh spin on the Michael Jackson classic. The Senior Guitar Ensemble followed with Am I Dreaming, demonstrating the versatility of the guitar program through a contemporary sound that resonated with the audience.
A highlight of the evening came from the Senior Choir, whose performance of Dreamwild captivated the audience. Their blend of voices and musical expression reflected the confidence and maturity that comes from dedicated rehearsal and a shared love of performance.
The stage then belonged to our instrumental ensembles. Concert Band took listeners on a musical journey with Celtic Air and Dance No. 4 and the vibrant rhythms of Ritmo y Sabor. Wind Symphony showcased impressive musicianship through Three Folk Miniatures before transporting the audience into the cinematic world of How to Train Your Dragon, bringing excitement and adventure to the stage.
Following the Wind Symphony performance, the audience paused to recognise a special group of students. Head of Music & Performing Arts, Mr Nico Di Stefano, acknowledged the Year 12 musicians whose dedication to the ensemble program has helped shape music at TKS over many years. A photograph of the students was displayed as Mr Di Stefano reflected on their commitment and contribution to the program. While formal Music Awards and plaques will be presented later in the year, this moment provided an opportunity to celebrate the lasting impact these students have made on the TKS Music community.
Our string ensembles continued to impress throughout the evening. Corelli Strings delivered a powerful rendition of the Finale from The Firebird, followed by the lively Ukrainian Dance, demonstrating both technical precision and expressive performance. The concert concluded with Volante Strings, whose performance of Moonlight Flight provided a fitting finale, bringing the evening to a close with grace and energy.
One of the joys of the Spring Concert is seeing students perform music from such a wide range of styles and traditions. From contemporary favourites and film scores to folk-inspired works and classical repertoire, each ensemble brought its own character to the stage while reflecting the breadth of opportunities available within the TKS Music program.
Thank you to our dedicated music staff for the time, expertise and encouragement they invest in students throughout the year, and to the families and friends whose support makes these opportunities possible. Most importantly, congratulations to every student who performed. Your preparation, commitment and willingness to share your music with others made the 2026 Spring Concert a memorable evening for all in attendance.
