A Taste of Our Community: Students Create School Recipe Book

The team of Year 9 and 10 students who were previously working with the Liger Academy in Cambodia has now turned their efforts to our own school community. The group are cooking up something special for our TKS community: a recipe book filled with delicious dishes and the heartfelt stories behind them.

The book brings together recipes submitted by students, each one carrying a personal connection. From family favourites to cultural traditions, every recipe reflects something meaningful about the people who shared them. More than just a cookbook, the project is a collection of memories, emotions, and experiences from across our school.

With the help of our Food Studies teacher, Ms Emer Fox, the team of students has conducted interviews with their peers, whose recipes will be featured. Using their interviews, they are creating short biographies to accompany each recipe, highlighting the people and stories behind the food. To make the project even more personal, students have also taken portraits of each contributor to include alongside their stories.

The goal is to have the recipe books ready in time for the Twilight Festival. While the students are still finalising whether the books will be available for purchase or distributed in another way, they are excited to share the finished product with the whole community in the future.

Keep an eye out for this wonderful collection; it promises to be a celebration not just of food, but of the people and connections that make our school so special.
