From Rituals to the Role of AI in Theatre
But what if you could?
That’s the question our student-led TKS Flight Deck podcast posed to international sensation Anna O’Byrne in a captivating conversation that moved from the bright lights of the West End to the quiet moments before stepping on stage.
Joined by students Aran, Arien and Aurelia — two of whom will perform alongside Anna in our upcoming production Once Upon a Time — the discussion offered a rare glimpse into both the artistry and the heart behind a life in theatre.

Anna shared her personal journey: the moments that shaped her, the lessons that stayed with her and the experiences that continue to inspire her. She spoke candidly about the joys and challenges of being a world-renowned performer, from navigating self-doubt to celebrating hard-won successes. For Anna, guiding others has been just as fulfilling as taking the spotlight—an insight that resonates deeply with our School’s belief in learning through mentorship.
Preparation, she revealed, is as much about mindset as it is about technique. Her pre-performance rituals, vocal warm-ups, stretching and quiet reflection, are not just habits, but anchors that allow her to connect fully with her audience and the story she is telling.

The conversation also took an unexpected turn, exploring the role of artificial intelligence in theatre. Anna sees AI as a potential collaborator in areas like set design or script editing, but she is clear about where its limits lie.
“AI can help with brainstorming or organisation, but the soul of theatre will always be human,” she reflected.
Her collaboration with The Knox School has brought a wave of creative energy to Once Upon a Time, blending familiar tales with original works.

It’s going to be a beautiful way to celebrate our shared love of storytelling
