Not every new member of a school community arrives carrying a backpack.
Some arrive with four paws, a wagging tail, and an extraordinary ability to make people feel calm, connected and seen.
We’re delighted to share that our Junior School is embarking on an exciting new chapter with the launch of the Dogs Connect wellbeing program, and before long, we’ll be welcoming our very own School Wellbeing Dog.
This isn’t simply about bringing a dog onto campus. It’s about intentionally creating another pathway for connection, belonging and wellbeing within our community.
Research continues to highlight the positive impact trained wellbeing dogs can have in educational settings. From helping students feel more settled and confident, to supporting emotional regulation, building positive relationships and creating moments of calm during busy school days, a wellbeing dog can become a quiet but powerful presence in school life.
Our wellbeing dog will gradually become a familiar and much-loved member of our community, with every step of the journey carefully planned alongside the experienced team at Dogs Connect.
The introduction of our newest team member will be thoughtful, gradual and guided by best practice. A dedicated team of staff has already begun preparing for the program, ensuring the wellbeing of both our students and our dog remains at the heart of every decision.
Importantly, this is a program built on choice and respect.
We recognise that every person has a different relationship with dogs. Some students will be eager to say hello every day, while others may prefer to admire from a distance – or not engage at all. Every level of interaction will be respected, and participation will always be optional.
Our goal is to create opportunities, never expectations.
As we move through the implementation process, we’ll continue sharing updates, introducing our wellbeing dog, and providing opportunities for families to learn more about the program.
