Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up – Junior School Takes a Stand Against Bullying
Last week, our Junior School came together for a powerful assembly during Bullying No Way Week. The theme for 2025, “Be bold, be kind, and speak up,” shaped every moment of the presentation, led with heart and courage by our Environment Captains, Lucas Ping and Lahari Rao.
Together, we unpacked a big question: what really is bullying, and what is not? Students learned that bullying isn’t just a one-off unkind act, it’s repeated, deliberate behaviours like leaving someone out, turning friends against them, or saying and doing hurtful things again and again. Just as important, we also explored the difference between bullying and everyday disagreements, accidents, or one-off mean words. These might not be bullying, but they still remind us to choose kindness in our words and actions.
The captains encouraged their peers to live the week’s theme in practical ways:
- Be bold – have the courage to join in, participate, or stand up for yourself and others.
- Be kind – lift someone’s spirits, offer a smile, or share a thoughtful word.
- Speak up – if you see something, say something. Together, we all have a role in creating safe, supportive spaces.
Students also watched a short video on the ripple effect of kindness, reminding them how a single small act can spread far beyond what we imagine. Inspired, they accepted a Junior School challenge: to complete one Random Act of Kindness. From sharing and inviting a classmate to play, to giving compliments and listening carefully, our students discovered how simple actions can spark big change.
At The Knox School (TKS), we believe that being bold, kind, and brave enough to speak up are not just lessons for a week – they are skills for life. We are proud of our students for leading with courage and compassion, showing that even the youngest voices in our community can set a powerful example for us all.
