On Wednesday 26 March 2025, students from Years 4 to 6 at The Knox School came together to celebrate World Maths Day with an exciting lineup of activities! The day kicked off with the highly anticipated Worldwide Mathletics challenges during Period 1, where students joined an online session and tested their skills against others worldwide.
In the second session, the Years 5 and 6 students teamed up to enjoy a variety of engaging and thought-provoking maths games. The fun started with Dice Footy, a competitive game of multiplication and addition. Next, students played Greedy Pig, a game of chance and probability that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Finally, they delved into NIM, a classic strategy game that required careful planning and forward thinking. These games weren’t just entertaining – they helped reinforce essential maths skills such as addition, multiplication and efficient result recording. Most importantly, they fostered collaboration, problem-solving and clear thinking among the students.
After recess, Year 4 students joined Year 6 to revisit the games and get involved in the action. It was a fantastic opportunity for younger and older students to bond while further developing their maths abilities. Our Head of Mathematics, Mr Mete, along with our Associate Principal: Head of Junior School, Mr Cowell, also joined in the fun, tackling some of the challenges alongside the students.
The friendly competition was fierce, especially in Dice Footy, where Lorne from Year 5 and Mr Williams are now tied, each with one win!
World Maths Day was a huge success, providing an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, collaborate with their peers, and most importantly, have fun with maths.
