This term, Year 7 students have been diving into exciting TAD projects that blend imagination with real-world application.
At TKS, TAD stands for Technology, Art and Design, a dynamic and hands-on subject area where students explore their creativity while developing practical skills across a range of disciplines.
Game Design
In the Game Design unit, students have been using their creativity and problem-solving skills to design their very own video games. From storyboarding characters to developing gameplay mechanics, they’ve been introduced to the world of digital design while gaining valuable experience in planning, collaboration and digital literacy.
Insect Hotels
Sustainability and design come together in the Insect Hotel project. Students created prototypes for outdoor habitats that support local biodiversity by providing shelter for beneficial insects. This project allowed them to experiment with materials, construction techniques, and environmental awareness—all while designing for a real-world purpose.
Textiles – Tote Bag Project
In the Textiles unit, students have been learning essential sewing techniques in preparation for designing and creating their own tote bags. This project not only teaches practical skills such as stitching and fabric handling but also encourages students to express themselves through fabric choices and design elements.
Through these engaging projects, Year 7 students are building a strong foundation in TAD that combines technical skill with creative thinking – skills that will support their learning in school and beyond.
