The Knox School’s participation in the Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF) continued on Thursday 3 September, with Stage Band and Big Band taking to the stage at the Hawthorn Arts Centre and achieving outstanding results.
Competing alongside talented school ensembles from across Victoria, Big Band was awarded Gold, while Stage Band received Silver, recognising the high standard of musicianship, preparation and performance demonstrated by both groups.
As one of Victoria’s most respected school music events, VSMF offers students the opportunity to perform in professional venues, receive feedback from experienced adjudicators and learn alongside outstanding ensembles from schools across the state. For both ensembles, it was a valuable chance to showcase their work while gaining insights from leading music educators and conductors.
Students not only performed before an audience of peers, teachers and fellow musicians, but also had the opportunity to observe other school groups throughout the day. Listening to a variety of ensembles and receiving expert feedback are key parts of the festival experience, helping students develop as performers and deepen their understanding of ensemble music-making.
The Gold and Silver results are a wonderful recognition of the commitment shown by students throughout the year. Behind every performance are countless rehearsals, sectional workshops and individual practice sessions, all contributing to the success achieved on stage.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Stage Band and Big Band students represented The Knox School. Their performances reflected not only their musical ability but also the strong culture of collaboration and enthusiasm that continues to flourish across the music program.
Congratulations to all students involved, and thank you to Head of Performing Arts, Mr Nico Di Stefano, Deputy Head of Music – Ensembles & Bands, Ms Karman Melitsis, and the wider music staff team for their ongoing guidance and support.
With Big Band earning Gold and Stage Band receiving Silver, the festival has been a rewarding experience for our students and another exciting chapter in a fantastic VSMF season for TKS ensembles.
