The Knox School and Liger Academy in Cambodia have come together to offer an exciting, international, project-based learning experience for students. Through this collaboration, students at Liger Academy will work on developing a spice package for traditional Cambodian meals aimed at the tourist market. The project offers a unique opportunity for cross-cultural learning, hands-on creativity and entrepreneurial thinking for students across our Senior School.

Students from both schools will collaborate online, testing and refining recipes, designing packaging and even filming cooking demonstrations. The spice packages will include links to the recipes and stories about the collaboration between the two schools, offering a personal touch and deeper insight into the project. The aim is to create an authentic, marketable product that showcases the rich flavours and culture of Cambodia.

A Global Culinary Journey

The project is being led by Emer Fox, a Food Studies teacher at TKS, who is working with a cross-year level group of students. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with students eager to participate in the project. The opportunity to work with students from another country, collaborate on real-world challenges, and gain insight into Cambodian food culture is something that many students are excited about.

This week, two students in Year 10 had an initial virtual meeting with their fellow students in Cambodia. Year 10 student Stephanie shared her enthusiasm, saying:

“I am excited to begin this project—it’s an incredible opportunity, and we can’t wait to see where it leads. Collaborating with a school in another country is a completely new experience for me, and I’m eager to embrace the journey ahead.”

Fellow Year 10 student Mali expressed her excitement about the cultural aspect of the project, saying:

“I’m truly excited to embark on this journey and explore different cultures, particularly Cambodian cuisine. While I don’t have much experience with Cambodian food, I’m looking forward to discovering new flavours and sharing them with my community in Australia.”

A Bright Future for International Learning

This collaboration between TKS and Liger Academy is an excellent example of how schools can leverage international partnerships to provide students with innovative, real-world learning experiences. It encourages creativity, cultural exchange, and teamwork – all key skills for students in today’s interconnected world.

We look forward to seeing where this project takes the students and how their efforts will contribute to fostering a deeper appreciation of Cambodian cuisine, culture and entrepreneurship. It’s an exciting journey ahead for everyone involved!
