On Tuesday 10 February 2026, more than 200 parents from our Junior School and Early Learning community gathered for one of the most anticipated events on our calendar — the Junior School Welcome and Information Evening. The outstanding attendance reflected the strength of our school community and marked a positive, energising beginning to the year ahead.
The evening kicked off with an inspiring address from our Principal, Ms Nikki Kirkup, who shared her vision for The Knox School. She emphasised the importance of preparing students for an unpredictable future, one that requires skills beyond the traditional classroom model.
Throughout the evening, teachers had the opportunity to share key information about 2026, including curriculum priorities, classroom routines, and learning goals. Parents gained valuable insight into what their child will be exploring throughout the year and how each program is designed to foster growth, curiosity, and confidence. Establishing this clarity at the beginning of the year ensures families feel informed and well-equipped to support their child’s learning journey from Day One.
The Head of Junior School, Mr Simon Cowell, enjoyed sharing some reflections from his holiday reading, especially The Teacher of Auschwitz, which prompted meaningful conversations about the power of education, courage and perspective. It served as a powerful reminder that education extends far beyond curriculum — it shapes character, resilience and hope.
Beyond the practical information, the evening also created space for connection. Families enjoyed the opportunity to meet other parents within their year levels, reconnect with familiar faces and strengthen the sense of belonging that defines our Junior School. The positive energy in the rooms was unmistakable, with conversations flowing and a shared excitement building for the months ahead.
Continuing the theme of connection, we were also delighted to host our first Specialist Teacher Coffee Catch-Up in the new Community Café. This event welcomed approximately 50 parents for an informal meet-and-greet with our Junior School Specialist teachers, creating a warm and inviting environment for conversation.
The morning provided families with the opportunity to hear directly about our Specialist Programs and gain deeper insight into how these subjects support student growth, engagement and skill development. Parents were able to ask subject-specific questions while building relationships with the teachers who enrich their children’s learning experiences each week. The relaxed café setting encouraged authentic dialogue and strengthened the partnerships between home and School that are so vital to student success.
The Deputy Head of Junior School, Ms Sarah McKenzie shares:
“Thank you to the families who attended the Specialist and Parent Morning Tea in the Community Café on Wednesday. It was a wonderful opportunity for our ELC and Junior School parents to engage in the community spirit, meet other families within their cohort and connect with our specialist teachers.
Opportunities like this are invaluable, allowing teachers to put faces to names and strengthen the genuine partnerships between home and School that support our students so positively.
We hope you enjoyed your complimentary coffee and had the chance to meet some new faces.”
Together, these events have set a strong and connected foundation for 2026. Families left feeling informed, welcomed and excited for the year ahead — a wonderful reflection of the vibrant, engaged and supportive community we are proud to nurture within our Junior School.
