At TKS, we are constantly inspired by the incredible achievements and compassion of our students.
One such student, Oak Tysoe, a Year 11 student, has truly embodied the spirit of community, resilience and generosity through his fundraising campaign in memory of a karate teacher and mentor, Cameron Gill. This term, Oak took on the brave challenge of shaving his hair to raise funds and awareness for crucial cancer research and support services for patients and their families.
Just two weeks into his campaign, Oak had already raised more than $3,000 – a testament to his commitment and the overwhelming support from the TKS community. But Oak’s determination didn’t stop there. By 2 April 2025, the big shave day itself, he had not only met but smashed his fundraising goal, reaching a remarkable $5,509!
In Oak’s words:
By donating to my campaign, you have helped me raise funds and awareness for these vital causes and fuel life-changing research projects. Any amount – big or small – has and will make a real, tangible difference. I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of my community and how everyone has been so willing to get involved.
What started as a modest goal of $50 has turned into a powerful display of what can be achieved when a community comes together. Our TKS community’s wholehearted engagement with Oak’s mission has been nothing short of inspiring. From students to staff, everyone has rallied behind Oak, showing just how generous and caring our school can be.
Through The World’s Greatest Shave, Oak’s campaign is dedicated to raising funds for research into blood, brain, breast and skin cancers, as well as supporting vital services for cancer patients and their families. These causes are close to Oak’s heart and his courage to take on this challenge in memory of Cameron Gill serves as an example of the power of hope.
