Supporting Aspirational Student-Athletes at TKS
This year, we have proudly launched the Falcon Squad, an athletic development program designed to support high-performing, aspirational student-athletes from Years 9 to 12.
Headed by Nathan Bower, Senior Head of Sport Strategy, Programs and Pathways, the Falcon Squad offers nominated students the opportunity to explore the attributes of elite performance through a holistic approach that goes beyond physical training.
The program focuses on both mind and body, with scheduled sessions that complement, rather than interrupt, academic commitments. Students gain insights into sport nutrition, mindset, resilience, preparation and recovery, mindfulness, and developing their individual purpose. These skills build on their community sporting experiences and empower them to perform with purpose.
The rationale behind Falcon Squad is clear:
- Recognise and nurture aspirational talent within our student cohort
- Create a supportive “squad” mentality that celebrates student success
- Provide the flexibility and support for students to train and perform at an elite level
- Position TKS as a school that values sporting talent across all genres
- Nurture the holistic student-athlete, balancing academic success with well-being and performance pathways
Delivered internally by TKS staff with deep expertise, the program is also supported by sporting industry guests Phillips Coaching & Rise Health Group. Falcon Squad will run as a pilot program in 2025 with the ambition of expanding in future years.
The first session kicked off earlier in August, Fuel for Performance: The Falcon Squad Take on Nutrition, running through to November.
By investing in this initiative, TKS strengthens its commitment to ensuring students are supported not only as learners but as athletes and as people, equipped with the resilience, purpose, and confidence to pursue greatness.
