Junior School Strings Soirée

The Junior School Strings Soirée on Thursday 13 November gave our young musicians the chance to shine and share the progress they have made throughout the year. Each performance reflected hours of rehearsal, careful listening and the courage to perform with poise and passion. The showcase featured all of The Knox School’s Junior String ensembles: Falcon Strings, Junior Chamber Strings and Dolce String Orchestra.

The concert opened with a beautiful performance by Junior Chamber Strings, a quartet of students from Years 5 and 6, directed by Ms Joanna Ou. Their elegant renditions of Mozart’s Allegretto and Elgar’s Salut d’Amour set the tone for an afternoon filled with musical excellence.

Next, Falcon Strings, featuring students from Years 2 to 4, delighted the audience with lively performances of the folk tunes Old Joe Clark and Pease Pudding Hot. The ensemble was directed by Ms Joanna Ou and Mr Nick Henderson, with accompaniment by Mrs HeaSeung Jeong.

The concert concluded with a dynamic performance by the Dolce String Orchestra, comprising students from Years 4 to 6. Conducted by Ms Aysegul Akkaya and Mr Nick Henderson, the group performed Little Critters by Brian Balmages and an arrangement of Handel’s Water Music, capturing both the joy and discipline of ensemble playing.

The Soirée was a wonderful opportunity for our young musicians to share their passion, confidence and dedication, and a fitting finale to another successful year of music in the Junior School.
