This week, TKS witnessed the power of student leadership in action as our Year 6 students took centre-stage with an inspiring assembly on Caring for Our Earth. With passion and purpose, they reminded us all of the importance of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – and encouraged simple but meaningful habits, like turning off lights when leaving a room. Their message was clear: small actions, when done consistently, can make a big difference for our planet.
The spirit of environmental awareness carried over into Community Time the next day, when our Year 6 leaders launched a creative school-wide challenge: Let’s Get Creative with Recycling!
Students across all year levels were invited to reimagine discarded paper as something new and beautiful. From sculptures to collages, each creation told a story of sustainability – showing that what some might consider trash can, with a little creativity, become treasure.
Classroom recycling bins buzzed with activity as students dug into their paper scraps, bringing artistic visions to life and reinforcing the value of reuse in a tangible, hands-on way.
It’s heartening to see our young changemakers not only talking about sustainability but leading the charge within our school community. Their initiative reminds us that environmental stewardship isn’t just a lesson – it’s a mindset we can live by every day.
