What happens when students take ownership of the conversation about their learning?
This year, our Junior School has introduced 360 Interviews, a new approach that places students at the centre of discussions about their growth, achievements and future goals.
Alongside traditional Parent-Teacher Interviews, our Years 3-6 students recently stepped into the role of presenter, hosting their own learning conversations with families and teachers. Rather than simply hearing about progress, parents had the opportunity to see learning through their child’s eyes as students shared examples of their work, reflected on their development and identified the next steps in their learning journey.
The experience reflects a key belief at The Knox School: learning is most powerful when students are active participants in the process. By encouraging students to articulate their strengths, challenges and aspirations, the 360 Interviews help develop confidence, self-awareness and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a successful learner.
Throughout the week, classrooms became spaces for meaningful dialogue. Students proudly shared their achievements, celebrated growth and demonstrated the maturity required to discuss both successes and future goals with their families. The result was a richer and more authentic understanding of each student’s learning journey.
We are incredibly grateful to the many parents and guardians who took the time to participate. Their engagement and support play an important role in strengthening the partnership between home and school.
As with any new initiative, feedback is an essential part of the process. We have been encouraged by the positive response from families and appreciate the thoughtful reflections shared by our community. This feedback will help us continue refining the experience to ensure it remains meaningful, engaging and impactful for students, families and teachers alike.
Looking ahead, we see the 360 Interviews as more than a reporting process. They are an opportunity to empower students to become reflective learners, confident communicators and active partners in their own education. Families will also be invited to participate in a follow-up focus session later this term as we continue shaping the future of this important initiative together.
