Music and Performance
In music and performance, our students listened closely, supported one another with care, and led with confidence, showing how discipline and creativity work hand in hand to create something extraordinary.
The Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF) is an event for schools that runs throughout Term 3. The festival gives bands of all levels the opportunity to perform in a public venue, the Hawthorn Town Hall, along with ensembles from other schools. In addition to performing, students participate in an on-stage workshop with a high-profile guest conductor and have the opportunity to watch several other schools perform. Our Senior Concert Band and Big Band were each awarded Gold at the VSMF, recognition that reflects months of rehearsal, careful listening, and the confidence to perform as one.
In addition to success on stage as a group, many students also pursued personal milestones through AMEB examinations. AMEB examinations are instrumental exams that run in several sessions throughout the year. Students who undertake AMEB exams work on graded repertoire, and achieving a grade level is an important recognition of their progress. Listed at the end of this article are the AMEB grades achieved by our students so far this year. We’re very proud and wish all students with upcoming AMEB exams all the best with their preparations.
We also celebrate the international success of Year 10 student, Caio McDonald, at the Hip Hop World Championships. Caio reached finals in four divisions and earned three medals, bronze in the adult division, bronze in Adult Mega Crew, and silver in Under 18 Mega Crew, with fifth place in a fourth division. It is a landmark set of results for Victoria and Australia.
Bravo to every performer and the team behind them who tuned, practised, and encouraged.
