The sound of rehearsals, laughter and music filled Rutherford Park last week as 124 students from Years 7 to 12 came together for The Knox School’s annual Music Camp, making it one of our largest camps in years.
Bringing together students from intermediate and senior ensembles, the three-day camp provided an immersive opportunity to focus on music-making while strengthening friendships and connections across year levels.
Students from TKS Wind Symphony, Big Band, Stage Band, Senior Choir, Concert Band, Volante Strings and Corelli Strings spent the camp refining repertoire and preparing for several major performances later this year, including the Victorian School Music Festivals, Spring Concert and Celebration Nights.
While music was at the heart of the camp, there were plenty of opportunities for students to connect beyond the rehearsal rooms. One of the highlights was a Music Trivia night organised by our Year 12 students. With mixed teams made up of students from different year levels and ensembles, the evening was filled with friendly competition, plenty of laughter and the chance to meet new people.
Another memorable activity, coordinated by Year 12 Music and Performing Arts Prefect Oak T, challenged students to match poems with the staff members who had written them. Each teacher (and even a few brave extras!) submitted a poem about themselves, filled with personal clues and stories. Students then had to work out which staff member was behind each poem, leading to plenty of discussion, laughter and surprising discoveries along the way.
Throughout the camp, students demonstrated outstanding commitment and teamwork, embracing every rehearsal, activity and challenge with enthusiasm. The experience provided valuable time for ensembles to work cohesively, strengthen their performances and develop a strong sense of unity ahead of a busy performance season.
