Year 6 students at TKS are currently participating in an exciting and important two-week Bike Education program. This intensive course is led by Year 6 Teacher (and Tour de France Enthusiast), Boyd Williams, and supported by our Sport Teaching Superstars. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to become safe and confident riders.

OurBike Ed program is part of a broader initiative supported by the TAC and the Department of Transport and Planning, Victoria. Developed specifically for Victorian schools and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, it offers both practical and theoretical lessons to help students become responsible cyclists. The curriculum has undergone reviews from schools, expert teaching groups, including the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER).

Students are learning more than just how to ride. They’re gaining crucial road safety knowledge, improving their bike handling skills, and building confidence in navigating roads and intersections. The program also highlights the benefits of cycling for physical health and the environment.

In the classroom, students are completing theory lessons to reinforce their learning on the field – making this a truly comprehensive approach to bike safety and education. This program not only prepares our students to ride safely but also encourages independence and sustainable transport choices for the future.
