Year 8 student Rhys M is leading a group of big-hearted classmates as they prepare to brave the cold for a cause that matters, taking part in this year’s Daffodil Day Dip to raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support services.
What started as a small idea has quickly gained momentum. Rhys initially set a fundraising goal of $250 and gathered a handful of classmates to join him. Less than a week later, the team has grown rapidly and already sailed past $800, prompting them to raise their target and proving that from small beginnings, big things really can grow.
Calling themselves Shiver Me Timbers, the team is ready to swap warm clothes for ice-cold water, all in support of the thousands of Australians affected by cancer. Motivated by the impact the disease has on families, friends and communities, Rhys and his teammates wanted to do something that could make a real difference. Through their Daffodil Day Dip, the students are raising funds for the Cancer Council, helping to support vital cancer research, prevention programs and services for those affected by cancer.
Their fundraising effort is a wonderful example of young people turning care and compassion into action. We are incredibly proud of Rhys and fellow Year 8 teammates Hope L, Quinn O, Chamathka R, Zayden Z, Mason M, Daniyal A, Rory B, Alex L, Heath I, Xander H and Andrew K for stepping up in support of others. Their willingness to give back, show compassion and take action reflects the values we strive to live every day at The Knox School. They are a wonderful example of how our students use their big hearts to make a positive difference in the world around them.
The growing success of Shiver Me Timbers shows the extraordinary impact that can grow when students recognise a need and take the initiative to make a difference. What began with one student’s idea and a small group of classmates has become a heart-warming story of kindness, community and leadership in action.
As the Year 8 Shiver Me Timbers team prepare to take the plunge for Daffodil Day later in August, we congratulate them on the impact they have already made and wish them all the best for their big dip.
