Each term, The Knox School students work together to determine what charity to partner with for the termly casual clothes day, a fond tradition for our community. Often these causes are connected to raising awareness or have a personal element to them and Term 2 is no different!

Our Social Justice, Diversity and Inclusion Prefects, Savi Jayawickrema and Eashan Dureja, are proud to announce our participation in the 2025 DIY Big Freeze, a nationwide initiative supporting FightMND’s mission to combat motor neurone disease (MND).

Savi and Eashan have worked with TKS staff to establish a fundraising team, aptly named “The Knox School Big Freezers,” a group that is committed to raising $3,000 to contribute to vital MND research and support services.

MND is a progressive and devastating condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control and, ultimately, death. With an average life expectancy of just 27 months after diagnosis, the need for research and support is urgent. Funds raised through initiatives like the Big Freeze help to improve care for those living with MND, fund research into more effective treatments, and work towards finding a cure.

Our students are actively engaging in this cause by encouraging donations and promoting awareness within the school community. One of the exciting aspects of our fundraising efforts is the opportunity for students to participate in a friendly competition: the student who raises the most funds for a particular teacher will have the chance to dunk that teacher with ice during the Big Freeze event on Friday 27 June 2025. This adds an element of fun and motivation to the campaign, fostering a spirit of community involvement and support!

Eashan and Savi further shared:

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from staff who would be willing to take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge. Your participation would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way in helping create a memorable and meaningful event.

We invite all members of our school community to contribute to this worthy cause. Donations can be made through their fundraising page (click to open), and every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against MND.

Thank you for your support and generosity. Let’s unite in this effort to help those affected by MND and work towards a future without this debilitating disease.
