The Year 10 Constellation Series: Guiding Students Towards New Possibilities
Education is most powerful when it connects learning with the real world. After nearly a year of planning, The Knox School is proud to introduce the Year 10 Constellation Series 2026, a new initiative designed to give students greater ownership of their learning whilst engaged in a journey and the chance to apply their skills in meaningful ways.
The name was chosen with purpose. Just as constellations form patterns that once guided explorers across unknown seas, these journeys will guide students as they begin to think about life and career pathways beyond school. The program asks every student in Year 10 to take part, not as a passive participant but as an active contributor, shaping projects that reflect their own interests while serving communities close to home and across the globe.
Over a two-week period in Term 2, students will be immersed in one of four distinct experiences:
- Cambodia
- Singapore
- Budj Bim
- Melbourne
Student Agency and Real-World Outcomes
Each location offers something different, from building educational resources with the Liger Leadership Academy in Phnom Penh, to working alongside health and sports experts at Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic, to exploring Indigenous knowledge and sustainability practices at Budj Bim, or investigating innovation, entrepreneurship and social impact in a range of industries and tertiary organisations across Melbourne. While the contexts are diverse, the common thread is that students will be asked to work with real clients and community partners to create solutions, products or services that address authentic needs.
This program is deliberately designed with strong academic links. Drawing on the School’s Knoxpeditions framework, the journeys embed project-based learning into each experience. Students will still be working to curriculum standards, but with a different lens: one that sees theory tested against practice, and ideas developed into tangible outcomes. Alongside this, cultural and historical experiences wherever possible, are woven into the itineraries to provide depth, context and connection.
What sets the Constellation Series apart is the degree of agency it affords students. Rather than being told what their project should be, students will choose an area of interest, design their own approach and collaborate with peers, mentors and industry experts to bring their ideas to life. In doing so, they will not only build creativity and resilience but also gain insights into potential career pathways and the skills needed in a changing world.
As part of the experience, students will have the chance to gain externally warranted credentials that recognise the competencies developed on each journey. These credentials, combined with the final showcase of student work back at TKS, will ensure that the outcomes of the Constellation Series are both visible and lasting.
The inaugural Constellation Series will take place from 27 April to 8 May 2026. International journeys may depart on 26 April 2026 and return by Saturday 9 May 2026, while other journeys will begin from the Monday. Preparation will be built into Term 1, with dedicated time in the Flexible Learning Program to help students plan and refine their projects before departure.
Families are encouraged to hear more about the journeys and are invited to attend an online information evening on Wednesday 8 October 2025 from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, where staff and program partners will share further details.
Registrations can be made via https://go.knox.vic.edu.au/Y10Camp.
The Constellation Series marks an important step in giving students both the responsibility and the freedom to connect their learning with the world around them. It is an opportunity for Year 10 to test their skills, explore their interests and make a contribution that reaches beyond the classroom.
