A team of students from Years 7 to 9 represented TKS this week in the Vic/Tas round of the Middle School Ethics Olympiad, putting their critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills to the test.

Lily G (Year 9), Rithik E (Year 9), Amelia C (Year 8), Ishaan M (Year 7) and Piper M (Year 7) have been working together to develop their ethical thinking in preparation for the competition. Across four rounds, they joined students from schools throughout Victoria for a day of thoughtful discussion, philosophical questioning and some challenging ethical dilemmas.

Unlike a traditional debate, the Ethics Olympiad isn’t about arguing one side or trying to defeat an opponent. Instead, students are encouraged to explore complex ethical issues from multiple perspectives, listen carefully to different viewpoints and explain the reasoning behind their own ideas.

Throughout the day, the TKS team examined a range of contemporary ethical case studies before responding to questions from judges and other teams. A highlight was receiving feedback from judges representing Australian and international universities.

Our students impressed with their analytical thinking, respectful dialogue and willingness to engage with challenging ideas, ultimately placing 10th and receiving an Honourable Mention.

The Ethics Olympiad provides students with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their reasoning, communication and teamwork while considering moral questions relevant to the world around them.

Congratulations to Lily, Rithik, Amelia, Ish and Piper on a fantastic effort and for representing TKS with curiosity, respect and thoughtful thinking.
