Months of brainstorming, creating, testing, refining and problem-solving came together as The Knox School’s Tournament of Minds (TOM) teams took to the Regional Finals, proudly showcasing their ideas, talents and teamwork.

Tournament of Minds is far more than a competition. It challenges students to think creatively, work collaboratively and tackle complex problems that have no single “right” answer. Across the season, teams are required to plan, design, write, build, rehearse and adapt as they develop solutions to their Long-Term Problems, often overcoming unexpected challenges along the way.

This year, our students rose to that challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Throughout their preparation, they learned to negotiate differing viewpoints, manage deadlines, think on their feet and embrace the understanding that the first idea is not always the strongest. Just as importantly, they discovered the value of listening to one another and drawing on the unique strengths of every team member.

These experiences are what make Tournament of Minds such a powerful learning opportunity. Beyond the competition itself, students develop creativity, leadership, resilience, communication skills, critical thinking and the ability to work effectively with others, skills that will serve them well long after Tournament Day has finished.

We are incredibly proud of every student who participated this year. Simply taking on the challenge of Tournament of Minds requires courage, commitment and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. The dedication shown by all 11 teams throughout the season was outstanding.

We are especially delighted to congratulate Secondary Team 3 (Social Sciences) and Secondary Team 6 (The Arts), both of which achieved Honours placings. This is a wonderful recognition of the countless hours of collaboration, creativity and hard work invested by each team member.

A special thank you also goes to our staff facilitators, senior student mentors and families whose encouragement and support helped make the season such a positive experience. Their guidance played an important role in helping our students grow, persevere and achieve their best.

Congratulations to all of our Tournament of Minds participants. Whether you were building, performing, designing, researching, writing or presenting, you represented The Knox School with imagination, commitment and plenty of creative thinking. We couldn’t be prouder.
