Clubs at The Knox School offer something for everyone — from the creative calm of Knox Knitters to the imaginative adventures of Dungeons & Dragons. With such a wide range of opportunities, students are encouraged to find their passion, try something new and connect with others who share their interests.
This term, we caught up with three dedicated Year 10 students — Ruby, Curtis and Belinda — to hear about the inspiring work being done by the Knox Knitters in 2025. Here’s what they had to say, in their own words:
The Knox Knitters have had a busy start to 2025. We’ve welcomed some new club members who have been keen to learn how to cast on and off, knit and purl. Despite a few dropped stiches, they are making great progress and are on their way to finishing their first piece. We’ve also welcomed back some of our older members from Years 11 and 12 who have re-discovered our club and the fun of knitting.
This semester, our club’s project is to knit scarves for the homeless. We’ve already completed two warm, cosy (and very long) scarves and we have a few more that are almost finished and will hopefully be ready for donation before the cold weather begins.
The Knox Knitters is a great place to make new friends and learn new skills. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced knitter, students from Year 7 upwards are welcome to join Dr Church and the rest of the club members as we knit for a good cause. We meet every Monday at lunch time in room 400. It’s a great place to spend your time, especially during the Winter months.
As always, we welcome any donations, so if you have any spare yarn or knitting needles at home, we’d love to put them to good use. You can leave your donations at the front reception desk or give them directly to Dr Church.
If you have any questions or would like any more information, please see our club’s founding members: Curtis, Ruby and Belinda in Year 10 or Dr Church.
So if you are thinking about picking up those knitting needs this winter, we encourage you to get in touch with our Knox Knitters – they look forward to seeing you knitting with them soon!
