Tuesday 20 May 2025 marked a vibrant and eco-friendly celebration at The Knox School, as students, teachers and families enthusiastically embraced Nude Food Day!
This student-inspired event, aimed at promoting waste-free and healthy eating habits, was particularly successful in the Junior School, where students showcased creativity, responsibility and environmental awareness. Our Junior School Student Representative Council (SRC) prepared a marketing campaign to help get our community involved:
From the moment the school day began, it was clear that the Junior School had gone above and beyond to support the initiative. Lunchboxes were bursting with colourful, unpackaged snacks – homemade sandwiches, fresh fruits, chopped veggies and reusable containers filled with nutritious treats. Plastic wrappers, cling film and disposable packaging were nowhere to be seen.
Teachers in Prep and Year 3 praised students for their strong commitment to sustainability, noting that for many classes, Nude Food Day felt like just another day – reflecting the environmentally conscious habits already embedded in students’ daily routines.
Our Deputy Head of Junior School, Sarah McKenzie, was thrilled with the turnout:
We are proud of how our students embraced Nude Food Day. It wasn’t just about bringing a healthy lunch – it became a learning opportunity that sparked real conversations about waste, recycling and how we can care for our planet.
Parents also played a vital role in the day’s success. Many took the time to prepare nude food lunches with their children, and we’d like to acknowledge our parent community for their support in helping reduce single-use packaging and encouraging healthy eating. Teachers reported that several students have expressed interest in continuing their nude food habits well beyond the day itself.
Nude Food Day at The Knox School was more than just a themed day – it was a meaningful step toward building lifelong habits of sustainability and wellness. Judging by the smiles, the empty rubbish bins and the community spirit on display, it was a resounding success.
